Friday links on Monday

It looks like the pattern for late Friday links is going ahead. My family did a 2000 km trip (with return) to come to see our son, so this end of the week was not free enough to write down the good links of the week, but here you have…

24 ways a very nice site with 24 articles.

Interesting
  • Pearls Before Breakfast, very nice indeed. When I compare the general quality of the news papers in France against what I have in Germany and what I can read online for the rest of the world, I find the French ones of being rather bad with no real good "investigation" articles.

Friday links a little late

Webdev
  • Cross-Site Request Forgeries - If you are playing with AJAX, you should take the time to learn about the security implications.
  • I Need Smart RSS - If you want to start yet another Web 2.0 company, here is an idea.
  • Machine tags and ISBNs - The current simple tags are not working anymore, but it looks like the tags in the form of root:key=value like iso:isbn=12345678 will be more useful. Note that no hierarchy are available with this approach, but it is easier than writting RDF directly.
  • Software as a Service - A list with the benefits but also some key questions about the use of software as a service.
  • Office 2.0 Database - A list of software as a service.
Development/Hacking and hardware
Society
  • Manager - Performance, Image, Exposure - You code and want a raise? Read that first.

A lot about scalability issues. Erlang is really going to find a lot fans once again in the near future.

Offline/Online…

  • Joyent Slingshot. Run a Ruby On Rails application locally and sync it with a hosted one.
  • DjangoKit. 3 days later, the same for a Django application…
  • Do not forget XULRunner for a similar approach.
